So, I am on my second full week of work and am getting better at juggling working full-time AND being a wife and Mom. So far there hasn’t been any major hiccups, although Mike did mention to me last night that I hadn’t typed a new blog entry in awhile. I will also add that I stay CONSTANTLY busy, that I’ve become much more protective of my evenings and weekends and have gained 5 pounds in the past month from eating too much fast food. I need to start making my lunch (which will allow for healthier alternatives to burgers and fries) and I need to order the jumbo pack of energy drinks I am addicted to because I seem to crash every day around 3pm if I don’t have one. Many thanks goes to Mike’s Mom who is an amazing help with the boys. In fact, I would not be able to work this job if it weren’t for her. Part of Mike’s job involves a lot of evening meetings which puts him home as late as 9pm some nights. I don’t leave work until 5:30 and don’t get home until after 6pm (with no traffic). Braeden’s after-school care closes at 6pm, so on the evenings that Mike can’t get him (when he doesn’t have meetings he is off work at 4pm), Mike’s Mom picks him up around 4:30 from after-school care, feeds both boys AND has a plate waiting for me. Even MORE amazing is that she refuses to take even $1 from us. We are SO blessed.
So, things at work are going really well. I am enjoying the tasks assigned to me, learning a lot and have caught on fairly quickly. It’s so much easier to learn when you actually LIKE what you are doing. I was telling Rustalyn (the only other office employee other than the 2 attorneys- who are mother and son) that I am re-learning things as Braeden brings them home because when I was younger and being taught in school, I was always so bored and focused on everything BUT school, that I didn’t retain much information. I passed tests by memorizing and now that I actually care about being somewhat intelligent, I am interested in so much more. I LOVE my office- it’s kinda like my own spacious cubby hole, and I do have a little window that allows me a slight view of the lobby, front door and outside. There are several times during the day when I don’t have much to do, so I’ve been reading some of the case notes to familiarize myself. Lets just say its MUCH more interesting than Environmental Law! J
Both boys are doing great. Braeden has adjusted well to being back at school and really likes his teacher. He has a couple kids from previous years and one little boy from his baseball team in his class. It hasn’t seemed to faze Mikey that I am gone all day now. He does cry most mornings when I drop him off, but he is fine 2 minutes after I leave. He is just an attention seeker and wants all of us around him all of the time! It is amazing how in love I am with my children in the evenings when I get home. When I was home for 4 months (and it being summer), by 6:00 pm I was ready to hit the bottle. Now, I actually find myself wanting to push their bed-time back just a little bit so I can spend a few more minutes with them before they go to sleep.
A few cute, one appalling and one awesome things to share-
-Braeden asked the other day if he could be a Policeman AND a Professional Baseball Player!
-Mikey is sorta indifferent when it comes to potty training. He wants to use the potty as long as it’s at a time that doesn’t interfere with something more exciting. He doesn’t like to be changed and when we ask him if he is wet or if he has pooped, his response is always, “NO! gasy dough (though)”
-He says, “Oh Mikey!” when he falls down or makes a mistake in whatever he is doing.
-He says, “Hold you!” when he wants to be picked up or held (which lately is OFTEN).
-He picked up the word “Nasty” from his big brother and Harley and uses it correctly.
-He is so proud that he can sing patty-cake: Mikey’s version- “patty cake, patty cake, roll em’ up, PAN!”
-His new favorite song is “Bet on It” from High School Musical 2 (also one of Braeden’s favorites) and he requests I play it a lot and over and over.
-His top 2 things in the world- Fire trucks and Trains. Count down till we see “Tommy-” 32 days!
-We went to Chuckee Cheese this past weekend to celebrate Sayelor’s 2nd Birthday and of all the cool, loud, fun things to do there, Mikey wanted to use token after token to stand and watch the train in the big glass case. It was really neat, but over and over and over for $.25 each time? I did manage to snap some pictures of him testing out some of the other attractions:
I wonder if he’ll look any more excited when he gets his first REAL set of wheels.
“I like this one Mama cuz I get to HIT!”
The Beautiful Birthday Girl wearing her Chuckee Cheese crown-
-The “appalling” news?…..The boys and I were in a store and Mikey smacked some woman as we walked by her. I was SO embarrassed despite the fact that she insisted she didn’t feel a thing. I made him say he was sorry and he did a good job at it, was adorably cute and even seemed quite sincere. Why then, did he, in every store we went in while running errands that day, point at a woman and say, “lady?” and when I said “yes”, say, “hit her?” I will give him the benefit of the doubt and believe in my heart that my precious baby boy was actually wondering if that was the woman he hit, not whether or not he COULD hit her!
-The “awesome” news?…..Mikey chewed and SWALLOWED an entire hotdog, 2 nights in a row. This is a HUGE accomplishment for our two-year-old-baby-food-eater!
Btw, Mike took the weekend off and went to a wedding in KY. I am not sure the last time he took a weekend off, but am so glad he did. He was able to have a break, spend time with some of his best friends and see one of them get married.
