Him got this preschool thing down pat!
No, that wasn’t a typo in the title. Although definitely not proper English, it’s just one of FEW things Mikey continues to say incorrectly and since there are so FEW things, I will NOT correct him. I will not correct him because A) he is growing up too fast and changing from toddler to preschooler before my very eyes and there is hardly any baby left in him B) it is so cute when he says things like- “Mommy, HER not want to play on the playground today. I wonder if HER is sick.” and C) he is now in preschool and it’s the teachers job to “teach” him right?!
The only other thing that comes to mind when I think about the incorrect English he uses (other than the adorable way he miss-pronounces things or the Southern accent that I pray will continue to linger for a LONG time) is when he says, “mines” instead of mine. Braeden was in kindergarten before he started saying, “Can you ASK Daddy if he can play catch with me” instead of, “Can you TELL Daddy if he can play catch with me.” I was not the one that corrected him either.
Mikey really is doing SO well in preschool. He has actually blown Mike and I away with how well he has adapted. The entire first week of school (his first day wasn’t until a Thursday) he was determined that he was NOT going to school. Not only did he actually GO his first day (and 3 more days since), he has had so much fun. He is smiling every time he walks out the door (the teachers bring each student to their parent who is waiting on the front porch of the building), and has so much to say about his day. A new favorite in my life is the ride home from preschool as Mikey tells me (his version) of what he did. It amazes me just how much he is learning already. I overheard him saying, “criss-cross-applesauce” the afternoon of his first morning at preschool. His mind is a little sponge and there is no doubt that despite our later entrance into a “school” environment (and my refusal to take the last little “baby” out of him) he will be ready for kindergarten in a few years. ****SIGH**** I can’t even begin to THINK about that right now. For now I will just continue to laugh at the many funny things he says and does. Most recently he insisted Braeden spike his hair so he can look like his big brother.
Braeden is probably thriving the most out of the 4 of us from our move to VA. He has made several friends on our street and continues to play outside in the open grassy area next to our house for HOURS after school and on the weekends. He brought home his first set of graded papers on Friday and had 1 B and 9 A’s
It was no secret that the schools in SC are not the best in the country, so it’s nice to see that he is at an appropriate level comparatively. He also had his first baseball game this past Saturday and his team won 16-9. He had 3 at bats and walked each time. He moved up a level and is now in “Kid-pitch” instead of machine-pitch, so frequent walks will be inevitable as the kids learn how to pitch. I do have to say, our team has an AWESOME little pitcher. He pitches side-arm and throws like I’ve never seen before. Having him on the team is definitely going to work to our advantage. Braeden played first base and had an amazing play. He reached for a throw, fell flat on his stomach and not only caught the ball, but kept his foot on the base for an OUT! We all know how much I love baseball, but I especially LOVE VA Little League. It seems to be much more organized. Braeden also has a great coach this season and who (even the non sports fans) can complain about a view like this.
I also love baseball this season because Mike is able to attend most of the games and help occupy our little monkey who lacks an attention span.
Speaking of baseball, guess who we are going to see a week from today…..THE PHILLIES! They are coming to town next week to play the Washington Nats. Ha! We WILL be the annoying fans in the stadium that cheer for the AWAY team, but I’ll take the dirty looks to see our TEAM! We are so excited for the family time! It’s also getting close to the Playoffs so every win is super important right now. CAN’T WAIT!
Mike is headed to NC this weekend for a Bachelor party. Sometimes I forget that we are only 30 and 31 and several of our friends are still not married. Most wives would be worried about the big bad “BACHELOR party.” I am actually just so glad Mike is able to have a break from work and from us and able to spend some time with all his buddies.
We are also preparing for the cold around here. It is absolutely gorgeous right now in the high 70′s, low 80′s, but we know the cooler weather will be here soon. We bought Mikey’s winter coat this weekend and the boys love their new bath robes.
So, that all I got right now. Being home the last week has allowed me to get so much accomplished and really get back into a routine and get CAUGHT up. I am certain that God will place another “job” in my path that will be perfect and right for me and my guys. Until then, I am enjoying spending time with them and thanking God that Mike has been able to get a significant amount of over-time (even with the over time he is still working MUCH less than he worked in SC) to help compensate for my lack of earning.
Have a great week!

So glad Mikey is liking preschool. Leah has always loved it and we have made so many good friends that way. I’m also glad that Braeden is enjoying Little League. My brothers played it for years in NOVA. Overall you will find that just about everything is more organized and more professional up there. Don’t get me wrong, I loved SC and absolutely hated to move, but it is the South and everything is more laid back and slower paced down there.

I think ALL of you should be commended on how well you are adapting to VA life. Looks like your boys are finding their niche!
