Back to School
Those 3 words describe EXACTLY what my life has been consumed with this week. I was the most un-prepared I’ve ever been for Back to School and I had 3 EXTRA weeks of summer with the last week being a child-FREE week (with the exception of watching Kamryn). I even closed off Summer Vacation with a FIVE-day weekend and STILL had issues?! I did absolutely NOTHING productive with my week without the boys. I was L- A- Z- Y- I mean REALLY lazy. I did no laundry, no cleaning, no school shopping, no errands, no catching up on everything I was behind on. I slept, watched TV and went to the movies- and drank a little too much one night- oops!
That all led me to Saturday- the day the boys were coming home from their week in SC. Friday night I went to a jewelry party at Lori’s house (yes, my boss) and I guess since I didn’t have $ to buy all the beautiful jewelry that was for sale (I did get a couple little things since all the proceeds were going to her friend who has breast cancer), I made up for it by drinking wine and margaritas- YEP there was a point in the evening when I had a glass of wine in one hand and a margarita in the other. I will take NO slack from anyone because it has been WAY too LONG since I’ve had a night out and let loose and it was totally needed. Trust me, I gave myself enough punishment the following 36 hours. I slept until the boys got home at 2pm saturday, then went BACK to sleep 30 minutes later with Braeden who had a headache and wanted to lay down. We woke up at 6pm and then I went back to sleep with Mikey at 7pm.
I felt MUCH better when I woke up on Sunday. We ran around with Mike’s Mom and Aunt and when we came home they made us homemade lasagna and chili. When they left on Monday morning, I started my cleaning and laundry frenzy which went well into Tuesday (so thankful I was OFF Tuesday too). I scrambled to Target and then Staples (since apparently everyone in town bought school supplies over the weekend at Target) at 7pm Monday night to get Braeden’s school supplies and he STILL went to school Tuesday without half of them. What is wrong with me? Where is the version of me that was totally prepared, had it completely “together”, was ahead of schedule, and obsessively organized? Blah- she is LOOOONG gone, but I sure do need her back!
Despite the lack of school supplies (he did finally take the remaining items to school today- only 2 days late), Braeden had a great first day of school and only said, “they do things differently here” when I asked how his day went. He has another young male teacher this year and he seems to be really great. Braeden says he is “super cool” and that the classroom is all sports themed- perfect fit.
Mikey had preschool open house on Tuesday and liked it so much, he threw a fit when it was time to leave. I am sitting at Starbucks typing this as Mikey is (hopefully) enjoying his first day of preschool. So, were there tears? Surprisingly not from Mikey. We told him that Frankie (his imaginary friend) went to his school too and it was Show-n-tell so he was able to bring his side-kick “Bear.” Tears from Mama? NOT A CHANCE!!!!! I have been WAITING patiently for this day. Kamryn is in the older 3′s classroom at the same preschool so that means I get 2.5 hours to MYSELF
The only concern I have is whether or not Starbucks will be OK with me bringing my own coffee while I use their free Wi-Fi since $4 latte’s twice a week will add up. OK, enough of my rambling. Here are some pictures of Back to School 2010. I hope anyone that had kids starting school or heading back to school had good experiences too.
New School = New “Do” I must say he did a pretty good job with the gel-
Braeden’s New School- Bristow Run Elementary (obviously I took these awhile ago- the first day was not this empty and calm)-
Mikey’s Preschool Open House-
Check out Mikey sitting at the table listening as the teachers talk to the parents about “what to expect.” He has an attention span like his Daddy
Listening-
Distracted-
Bored and trying to talk to Mike and I-
“Ugh, I can NOT sit still ANY longer!”
“Now, THIS is Preschool!” Checking out the playground before we leave-
First Day of Preschool-
Mikey and Kamryn-
Walking in (I find it funny that Mikey is leading the way)-
Such a BIG boy. I actually have to get him the bigger size backpack because this one doesn’t fit his folder and change of clothes.
Mikey and his teacher Ms. Ramirez-
Mikey with his PROUD, PROUD Mommy-
Mikey’s “Castle” Classroom-
K, gotta go! It’s been 2.5 hours ALREADY? Stay tuned to hear how he did…..

I bet you are glad the first week is over- back to school is always so crazy, even for the teachers! You all have had such a busy summer you deserve a little break. Braeden’s teacher sounds perfect for him and Mikey’s castle classroom looks awesome!
