Wow, it’s been exactly a month since I’ve typed an entry- sorry about that. Hopefully this entry and it’s MANY pictures will make up for it. A week ago at this time (3:45pm) Mike and I had been on the road almost 12 hours heading to FL for what would be a fabulous week sans the kiddos! Now we are on the way home with fantastic memories that will remain in our hearts forever. TT (aka Mike’s aunt) flew in Thursday night and so graciously took on the task of taking care of our boys so Mike and I could have an adult vacation. THANK YOU x 1000 TT!
So, we pulled out of the driveway about 4:30am REEEEEADY for some fun in the sun. We stopped in Florence, SC to see some dear friends, Mike’s friend Michael (he was in our wedding), his beautiful wife Ivy and their adorable 14 month old son Luke (Ivy is due in May with their second little boy). We ate lunch at a great restaurant (I had shrimp and grits- we WERE in South Carolina after all) and enjoyed all of Luke’s smiles and cuteness while catching up.
Once we were back on the road, I couldn’t help but REALLY miss South Carolina. Ivy and Michael have some strong southern accents and are just the cutest. As we got a little further into the SOUTH we spotted these-
hmmmm……maybe I DON’T miss SC and it’s pollen producing trees.
We arrived in Walt Disney World (Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort) at about 9:00pm. It didn’t take us long to get settled and fall asleep. We slept 12 hours and felt so spoiled knowing we could do that every night for the next week if we chose.
Although we did get LOTS of sleep the whole week, we were really busy. It wasn’t the most relaxing vacation, but it was filled with FUN and FAMILY!!!! My parents arrived in Disney Sat around lunch time. We ate some lunch and then lounged by the pool for a few hours. We went to downtown Disney that night and had dinner at an awesome restaurant. I had one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten.
Mike and I waiting for the bus to downtown Disney-
We walked around downtown Disney for a bit after dinner-
Mike, my Dad, and I went to Orlando airport to pick up my sister later that evening. Mike thought he’d greet her appropriately-
Sunday was my parent’s 40th anniversary! I can’t think of a better way to spend the day than watching a Detroit Tigers vs. Phillies game. Of course my parents and sister are Tiger’s fans and Mike and I Phillies fans. It was a great game with the Tigers winning it in the 9th inning. I was using the fact that our starters didn’t play much that game as the reason for the loss, but now I realize it was OUR (Mike and I’s and the Phillies) gift to my parents on their anniversary!
SO proud of this cute couple-
Sunday night my sister treated us all to a delicious dinner at downtown Disney. We ate at a Seafood restaurant and the food was SO good. I can still taste it. THANKS LISA!!!!
Mike and I waiting for the bus to downtown Disney again-
Tuesday was my Mom’s Birthday and we spent the day at Epcot. It was such a wonderful day. The weather was perfect and we all had so much fun. We even got my Mom on the ride Soarin’. Mike and I still can’t decide which was more amusing, the ride itself or my Mom’s reaction to it! Mike says he’s SORRY Mom!!!
The Flower and Garden Festival was going on at Epcot while we were there and everything was so fresh and beautiful. They had many bushes and flowers designed to look like various Disney characters.
This duck decided it would join us for a snack. It was SO close to us and was practically eating food out of our hands-
And of course no Disney trip would be complete without the Mickey ears picture. Mike has been far less times than me, so I made him wear them-
Have I mentioned lately how much I LOVE Disney World? I will admit, since we HAVE taken the boys before, it’s not as much fun without them, but we didn’t let that stop us.
Tuesday after a quick stop at the Orlando outlet center, we headed to my parents house in The Villages (a place I’ve mentioned loving many times, and probably JUST as much as Disney). I am kind of bummed that we didn’t have more time there this trip. We got to the Villages around 2pm and laid in the sun until about 5pm. It was the sunniest, hottest day of the trip so it worked out great that it was our “pool day.” We went to eat at the “Town Square” that night and it was insanely busy since there was a Mardi Gras celebration going on. Check out how much fun retired people have-
We had another YUMMY dinner that night-
Wednesday we went to another baseball game at Tiger’s field in Lakeland. They played the Phillies again. Yep, we got our DO-OVER and this time our first string of players played and we won! GO PHILLIES (sorry Dad, Mom and Lisa)-
Victorino (aka to me “Shaney BOY”)-
Thursday morning we packed the car up and headed to Clearwater for yet another Phillies game. This time we were at the Phillies stadium. There is just something about being at your team’s stadium surrounded by so many fans who love your team as much as you. My Dad and sister even wore Phillies shirts this game. I would have done the same at the Tiger’s games had they not have been playing the Phillies. The Tigers are my second favorite team, BUT, they are in a different league than the Phillies which means they could play each other in the play offs The game was awesome! We got to see our #1 pitcher (Roy Halladay) pitch. We were playing the Yankees which is my LEAST favorite team, so the fact that we creamed them 7-0 made the victory even sweeter-
Cliff Lee (our #2 pitcher- he didn’t pitch this game) signing autographs-
Of course I had to snap another picture of my BOY (Shane Victorino)-
Phillies know how to sell out a stadium-
Maybe it’s because of the yummy P shaped pretzels they sell-
Or their cool mascot-
We had a great dinner after the game and then hit the hottub at our hotel on St. Pete’s beach. I can’t believe how fast the week went. It was a perfect set up though because it’s hard to be sad leaving, when leaving means heading home to our sweet boys (who, I proudly must add, were Angels according to TT). Mike and I really feel so blessed and lucky to have had the week together alone. It was a great chance to refresh and take a break from the every day hussle and bustle. Believe it or not, I am actually looking forward to getting back to work on Monday. I’m a lucky gal!
