January has almost come and gone, but not without some interesting events

and by interesting I do not mean enjoyable or pleasant. I have to say I am actually kind of happy that this month is almost over. I was hoping something exciting would happen for me to post about. Well, the boys received “exciting” and their wish for snow. Ha! More like a blizzard, and guess who was stuck in it for 5 hours trying to get home from work (18 miles) while Mike and the boys were at home, warm and safe watching the beautiful snow fall. My office closed at 3pm because it was sleeting outside and the weather was calling for 6-12 inches of snow to begin around 5pm. Well, it BEGAN, but at about 3:30pm- the same time everyone else decided to try and make the mad dash home before the snow started. At one point ALL of the snow that had accumulated in 2 hours fell on my windshield. l grabbed my scraper that my sweet friend at work had given me (back in December after helping me clear my car of the first snowfall of the season with her scraper) and attempted to get the snow off. Getting out in foot deep snow is not so great with itty bitty “ballet flat” type shoes on (with no socks mind you). After clearing what appeared to be close to 5 inches of snow off my windshield, I realized that when I attempted to get the snow off with my wiper, I broke it which meant I had to drive the rest of the way home with my heat blasting (to melt the snow) and with visibility similar to if it was raining. OMG, what a nightmare!!!! I had to drive leaning to my right so I could look out that side of the windshield. I panicked a few times, and was thankful that we weren’t moving more than 5mph. I was so hungry after a few hours and of course had to pee. So I did (pee that is)…..in a cup, TWICE! All of the pee went in the cup too :) Once we finally started moving (about 4.5 hours later), the road in front of me had been plowed and we were moving pretty fast (fast compared to the 1-2 mph we’d been moving). As I stopped at a red light, another mound of snow fell on my windshield. This time, I had to stop my car, with cars moving on both sides of me, and clear the snow. While frantically trying to clear the snow as fast as I could, I broke my other windshield wiper. I had to drive the last 2 miles home with NO wipers and with almost NO visibility. It was so scary and I’ve never been happier to pull into my driveway. I got home about 8:30pm and my crazy husband decided he was going to attempt to go to work. He insisted the roads were fine by then. He did make it to work safely- 5 hours later!!!! He said there were abandoned cars all over the highway. What a mess! My office was closed for a much deserved snow day the following day. Oh gosh, I just realized that the major Blizzard that Mike experienced last year was in FEBRUARY and that they are calling for more snow this week.

Moving on- not interested in thinking about the possibility of MORE snow! Although, I am not sure being off work for an entire week due to sickness in early January was much better. I had the flu and bronchitis. Coincidently I was sick and in the hospital the SAME week last year :( So, I was sick on my Birthday, but that didn’t stop everyone from spoiling me. Thank you everyone for all the beautiful cards and gifts. I am so lucky to have such great family and friends. Mike’s Mom gave me cash, my parents gave me an “IOU” trip to Disney World when Mike and I go to FL in March (the BEST Birthday present) :) Braeden’s Nana gave me a gift card to Bed Bath and Beyond, a friend at work made me a cake and gave me a gift card to my favorite store White House Black Market, another friend at work gave me two Yankee candles and took me to lunch, my sister gave me an Amazon gift card, I received some very nice “personalized” gifts in the mail, a “friendship” plate and stand for my desk at work from Robyn, a homemade shirt from Chara (she is SO talented), a beautiful “Mom” bracelet from the Kozick family and so many beautiful, thoughtful cards that are just as wonderful as any gift. Mike made me my favorite dinner and cupcakes the week after my Birthday once I was feeling better. The cupcakes turned out so good and it was his first time ever making them. YAY Mike!!!!

Mikey prefers to just lick the icing-

On the subject of Birthdays, Happy Birthday to all our other special friends and family who celebrate in January too. Chara, Braeden’s aunt Nicole and cousin Charlie, Braeden’s aunt Danielle, Mike’s Mom, and Harley. We hope you all had a wonderful Birthday (with no sickness).

As I was uploading some pictures I found these 2 pictures and realized we DID have a GOOD “exciting” event this month- my friend Jenn and her little girl Leah (she is 3 1/2 also) came in town to visit family. They live in FL and came in town on one of the coldest weekends this winter. My car said 6 degrees as we drove to Jenn’s parents house. The cold didn’t stop the kids from having fun though. We all hung out in the basement and the kids played with all of Jenn’s old toys. Here’s Mikey playing princess’s with Leah. :)

Mikey’s Penguin he made at school-

So, now we are heading into February and REALLY excited for Braeden’s Birthday on Friday (4th). We have THE BEST surprise for him! Stay tuned……
